the salt pans of portugal

This project was inspired by a trip to Tavira, Portugal. I have taken inspiration from the rich culture and history as well as the local flora and fauna. The main design for this project, number 7 at the bottom of this page, was entered into the i-dott Surface Design Competition (2020) for the category 'Storytelling’ sponsored by Cole & Son. The design got shortlisted and I was very happy to receive a Certificate of Achievement for this. This specific design portrays historic scenes from the salt pans in Tavira: while I was in Portugal, I visited a photography exhibition that showed historic photographs of this area. All designs in this collection were created for screen printing purposes, however, due to Covid-19 I have never been able to physically print them. All elements used in these designs were hand drawn from own photography as well as from visual research.
